Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1938.

Līvāni is situated on the confluence of Daugava and Dubna rivers. It is first time mentioned in 1533 as a manor Livenmuiza of landlords' Liewen family. The name of the town comes from this surname.
The first impulse to develop the town was the building of Riga-Daugavpils railway in 1861. Later industry was established in the town. In 1926 city rights were granted.

The arms were granted in 1938 and show the confluence of two above-mentioned rivers and the hawk as a symbol of honor.
