Wappen von Lauterhofen

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

Lauterhofen already acquired town rights in the 13th century and later in the century it became a possession of the Wittelsbach family. The oldest seal dates from the early 15th century and shows already a tower (without the small towers), the two lions and the small shield with the arms of the Wittelsbacher family. The lion most likely is the lion of the Pfalz, as the family was besides Dukes of Bayern, also Prince-electors of the Pfalz. Since 1562 the small towers are added to the main tower.
