Wappen von Ötisheim

Official blazon

  • (de) In Gold schräggekreuzt ein roter Abtsstab und eine grüne Eidechse.

Origin/meaning

Ötisheim was first mentioned in 700 as a possession of the Lords of Enzberg, later of the Maulbronn abbey. The oldest known seal dates from 1515 and shows a crosier for the abbey, and a lizard. The lizard (Aitse) has been explained as a canting symbol. Later seals all show the lizard, but not always the crosier.
