The Coat of Arms and distinctive Unit Insignia was both approved for the 480th Field Artillery Battalion on 2 December 1954. They was redesignated for the 180th Artillery Regiment on 7 June 1960. On 19 July 1972 they was redesignated for the 180th Field Artillery Regiment.
