Origin/meaning

Blue is the Colour of the US Infantry. The Nebuly pale symbolises the airborne role. The Sword indicates the character as an Infantry Unit. The Sealion from the Seal of the President of the Philippines, indicates the award of the Philippine Presidental Unit Citation to the Regiment for it first combat jump at Manarwat in the Philippines. The city Symbol stands for Yokohama where the Regimetn landed in 1945 to begin a five Year Period as Occupation Troops in Japan. The Star divided as the Korean Taeguk represents the Regiment's five campaigns during the Korean War. The Heart of the Lion's should stands for Battle at Purple Heart Hill. The Sword with five notches symbolizes the Regiment's three Combat Jumps; One in the Philippines ans two in Korea. Approved 1 Septemebr 1983.
