History: Constituted 27 Communications Squadron, Fighter, Two Engine, on 14 Jun 1948.  Activated on 1 Aug 1948.  Redesignated:  27 Communications Squadron, Fighter, Jet, on 1 Dec 1949; 27 Communications Squadron on 1 Feb 1950.  Inactivated on 6 Aug 1951.  Activated on 14 Feb 1952.  Inactivated on 16 Jun 1952.  Disbanded on 10 May 1976.  Reconstituted, and consolidated (1 Nov 1991) with the 2040 Communications Squadron, which was designated 2040 Airways and Air Communications Service Squadron, and organized, on 8 Dec 1956.  Redesignated:  2040 Communications Squadron on 1 Jul 1961; 2040 Information Systems Squadron on 1 Jul 1984; 2040 Communications Squadron on 1 Nov 1986.  Consolidated squadron retains 27 Communications Squadron designation.  Redesignated 27 Special Operations Communications Squadron on 1 Oct 2007.
