History: Organized as 2nd Wing on 4 September 1919 and served as an observation organized. Inactivated on 30 September 1921. Activated on 8 August 1922 and redesignated as 2nd Bombardment wing in 1929, 2nd Wing in 1935 and 2nd Bombardment Wing in 1940. Inactivated on 5 Septmebr 1941. Activated on 7 June 1942. Moved to the United Kingdom in August-September 1942. Redesignated as in August 1943 2nd Combat Bombardment Wing (Heavy). Continued operations in the European and Mediterranean Theathers until April 1945. Returned to the USA in August 1945 and Inactivated on 7 November 1945.
