3RD CARABINIERS (PRINCE OF WALES'S DRAGOON GUARDS), BRITISH ARMY

History: Formed in 1922 as the 3rd/6th Dragoon Guards by the amalgamation of the 3rd Dragoon Guards (Prince of Wales's) and The Carabiniers (6th Dragoon Guards). It was renamed in 1928 as 3rd Carabiniers (Prince of Wales's Dragoon Guards). In 1971 it was amalgamated with the Royal Scots Greys (2nd Dragoons) tho form The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers and Greys).

Official blazon

A pair of crossed carbines, muzzles uppermost; on the cross of the carbines the Prince of Wales's plume, coronet and motto "Ich Dien" (I serve), and on the butts of the carbines s dcroll inscribed "3rd Carabiniers". The coronet and scroll in gilt; the plume, motto and carbines in silver plate.

Origin/meaning

The Carbines alludes to the title Carbiniers and the Prince of Wales's badge to the Prince of Wales title.
