Inactivated on 14 Sep 1949. Redesignated as 40 Troop Carrier Squadron, Medium, on 3 Jul 1952. Activated on 14 Jul 1952. Redesignated as: 40 Troop Carrier Squadron on 1 Mar 1966; 40 Tactical Airlift Squadron on 1 May 1967; 40 Airlift Squadron on 1 Jan 1992. Inactivated on 16 Jul 1993. Activated on 1 Oct 1993.
