History: Organized as 44 Aero Squadron on 30 Jun 1917. Redesignated as: Squadron K, Wilbur Wright Field, OH, Oct 1918; Squadron P, Wilbur Wright Field, OH, Nov 1918. Demobilized on 30 Apr 1919. Reconstituted and consolidated (1924) with 44 Squadron (Observation), which was authorized on 10 Jun 1922. Organized on 26 Jun 1922. Redesignated as 44 Observation Squadron on 25 Jan 1923. Inactivated on 31 Jul 1927. Activated on 1 Apr 1931. Redesignated as: 44 Reconnaissance Squadron on 1 Sep 1937; 44 Reconnaissance Squadron (Medium Range) on 7 Dec 1939; 44 Reconnaissance Squadron (Heavy) on 20 Nov 1940; 430 Bombardment Squadron (Heavy) on 22 Apr 1942; 430 Bombardment Squadron, Very Heavy on 28 Mar 1944. Inactivated on 10 May 1944. Activated on 1 Jun 1944. Inactivated on 15 Apr 1946. Redesignated as 44 Reconnaissance Squadron on 19 Feb 2015. Activated on 1 Apr 2015.
