79TH INFANTRY DIVISION CROSS OF LORRAINE, US ARMY

History: Activated 5 August 1917 as the 79th Division. Organized at Camp Meade (Maryland) 25 august 1917. Inactivated 2 June 1918 at Camp Dix (New Jersey). Assigned 24 June 1921 to the Organized Reserve. Activated 15 June 1942, reorganized at Camp Pickett (Virginia) and re-designated 79th Infantry Division 1 August 1942. Inactivated 11 december 1945 at Camp Kilmer (New Jersey).
