The shield is the color of the Adjutant General's Department (Now the Adjutant General's Corps). The torch of knowledge denotes the function of the school while the crest symbolizes the position of the Adjutant General as the right arm of the commander wielding the sword of authority in his name. The shield is shown in the color of the Adjutant General's Department insignia of branch at the time the device was approved.
The arms were approved 18 February 1942.
