The arms were devised in 1947 and are a symbol for the two historical towers in the city and the base of the arms symbolises the nature in the area.

Origin/meaning

The arms were devised in 1947 as a design for the new sports uniforms of the local school sport movement.

The tower is a symbol for the two historical towers in the city and the base of the arms symbolises the nature in the area. The tower has a stork's nest, as, at the time, storks had nested on the tower for more as a century.

The oldest medieval seals of the city showed the eagle of Brandenburg above some hills.
Hupp showed in the 1920s rather different arms, see below. This composition was taken from an early 19th century seal of the town. The meaning of the symbols is not known.
