Shoulder Loop Inaignia: Purple and gold are the school colors; the charges on the shield symbolize education, the arts, progress technology and agriculture. The bezant at center alludes to the sun and excellence. It is charged with a pall, forming a stylized “Y” and symbolizing York Institute.

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia and the Shoulder Loop Insignia was both approved on 16 July 1985. Literature: Image and Information from The Institute of Heraldry, US Army.
