The dragon was taken from the old arms of the district Worms. The violin is taken from the arms of the city of [[Alzey]]. Both symbols also refer to the Nibelungenlied, one of the medieval stories of Germany, which plays in the area. In the story Siegfried kills a dragon and there is a character called Volker, who plays the violin.
