Coroa mural de prata de quatro torres aparentes. Listel de prata com a legenda a negro, em maiúsculas: “ AREEIRO - LISBOA “.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 12, 2020.

The open book represents the several educational and cultural institutions in the area.

The crossed swords in their scabbards are a reference to the battle of Alvalade, when in 1323, Queen Isabel appeared between the two confronting armies of King Dinis and Prince Afonso (future King Afonso IV) and made peace between father and son, avoiding a bloody battle. The swords were part of the aarms of São João de Deus.

The hill with the golden chevron is a reference to the name Areeiro, meaning sand extraction place that existed in that area, the green hill was part of the former Alto do Pina arms.Literature:
