The indented Pale symbolises the Bridge over the River Douro, destroyed in 1809 during the Napoleonic Wars. The Arleon symbolises recapture av the City of Porto from French Troops in 1809. The Lion symbolises the strength of the Army and the Grenade the Artillery.
