AUST-AGDER PROVINCE

Arms (crest) of Aust-Agder
Official blazon
Norwegian

På rød bunn to gull bjelker.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on December 12, 1958.

The arms show two golden bars in red. The bars represent the two different communities, the land-based and ahore-based communities. The bars also represent trees, as timber was harvested in the inner parts of the province and shipped from the harbours. Forestry still is an important activity.
