Arms : Azure, a representation of the building of the Australian Academy of Science at Canberra ensigned of a Mullet of seven points Argent, on a Canton Argent a representation of the Royal Crown proper.
Crest : On a Wreath of the Colours a demi Swan rousant Sable Ducally gorged Or, the wings charged with a conventional representation of the nucleus of an Atom with three Particles in orbit Or.
Supporters : On the dexter side a Kangaroo, and on the sinister side a Talbot, both proper and Ducally gorged Or.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on March 1, 1965.

The arms show a representation of the Academy building. The seven-pointed star is taken from the Australian flag. The Royal Crown can only be, and here is, included in the arms by Her Majesty's special permission.

The black swan in the crest is intended to represent biological science, and the wing, with its conventional representation of the nucleus of an Atom, physical science. This black swan, is not only an Australian bird but, as such, is the dexter supporter to the arms of the city of Canberra.

The Academy's dexter supporter is that of the Australian Arms; its sinister supporter is taken, with their permission, from those of the Royal Society, because of the close relation of the two bodies, and the fact that Fellows of the Royal Society resident in Australia took the first steps to establish the Academy.Literature:
