Origin/meaning

Shoulder Sleeve Insignia: Red, black and white are the school’s colors. The Viking is the school’s mascot.

Shoulder Loop Insignia: Red, black and white (silver) are the school’s colors. The battle axe reflects the cadet’s military training. The open book denotes the academic instruction offered by the school. The pine bough alludes to the school’s location in an area where fir trees are a major agricultural industry. The round shield and Viking horse heads symbolize the school’s nickname “The Vikings”.

The Shoulder Sleeve Insignia was approved on 30 April 1982 and amended to update colors and measurements on 24 June 1992. The Shoulder Loop Insignia was approved on 24 June 1992.
