===Origin/meaning===
The arms were granted in 1961 and show in the chief the arms of the Wittelsbach family, Princes of the Pfalz, as Bürstadt belonged to the Pfalz from 1461-1623. The lower part shows in the colours of the [[Mainz (State)|State of Mainz]] (to which the city belonged after 1623), a cross as a symbol for the Imperial Abbey in Lorsch, which played a major role in the history of the city.
