BAD BEVENSEN
State : Niedersachsen
District (Kreis) : Uelzen
Samtgemeinde : Samtgemeinde Bevensen-Ebstorf (until 2011 Samtgemeinde Bevensen)
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The first seal of Bevensen was mentioned in 1430, but it no longer exists. The oldest known seal dates from 1685 and shows the Madonna with child. The above arms, which were granted in 1951, were based on this seal.
The Madonna itself is likely derived from the patron saint of the diocese of Verden, to which the town belonged. It may also be derived from the seal of the Medingen Abbey, which owned many properties in the town in the 15th century.
