Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on June 26, 1991.

Salzungen received city rights around 1305 and the oldest known seal dates from 1345. The seal already showed the local patron saint, St. Bonifatius, holding a crosier and bible. The saint also appeared on all later seals and arms until 1949.

These arms show a fountain (as the city is a spa (Bad)) and a cogwheel for the local industry. These arms were used until 1991 when the historical arms were restored.
