BAUMGARTEN BEI GNAS

State : Steiermark
District : Südoststeiermark (until 2015 Feldbach)
Incorporated into : 2015 Gnas

Wappen von Baumgarten bei Gnas

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on June 19, 1972.

The name of this municipality means "orchard". So, two trees were placed into the shield. The crown and the green hill are taken from the arms of medieval landowners, the Ritter (knights) von Baumgarten. Two villages in the Gemeinde bear names connected with water (Badenbrunn and Wörth, the latter being an old word for "island"), so the base of the shield was "flooded".
