Origin/meaning

The upper part shows the arms of the Lordship Bedburg, which is derived from the arms of Heinsberg. The lower part is the arms of the Lords of Salm-Reifferscheidt. The Reifferscheidt family was appointed vassals over Bedburg in 1291 by the Bishops of Köln. The oldest seals first only show a dragon, the supporter of the Reifferscheidt arms. Later seals show the dragon holding the shield. The arms were devised in the 19^th century and were confirmed after the merger on November 7, 1977.

In the early 20^th century the arms below were shown in the Kaffee Hag albums. These arms show the same composition, but without the silver bars in the upper half.
