Bellpuig was the centre of a barony conceded in 1139 to Berenguer-Arnau d'Anglesola (the arms of the first partition, the dantelly in black and gold, are the arms of the Anglesola family). Later, in 1400, the barony passed to the viscount Hug Folc de Cardona (the arms of the Cardonas are canting: three golden "cards" -thistles in Catalan- on gules). The escutcheon contains properly the municipal sign, and is canting two: Bellpuig means "beautiful hill", and that's a flory mount, embellished with a fleur-de-lis. At the top is a baron crown.

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on December 30, 1981.

At the top is a baron crown.Literature:
