The Military Governor of the Eastern Region of Nigeria proclaimed its independence on 30 May 1967. The region became a republic with the name of Biafra. The following years the Nigerian government slowly reconquered the secessionist republic and on 9 January 1970 the Biafran army had to capitulate. Since then the region is a part of Nigeria again. Nowadays it consists of the states of Anambra, Cross River, Imo en Rivers.

The Military Governor of the Eastern Region of Nigeria proclaimed its independence on 30 May 1967. The region became a republic with the name of Biafra. The following years the Nigerian government slowly reconquered the secessionist republic and on 9 January 1970 the Biafran army had to capitulate. Since then the region is a part of Nigeria again. Nowadays it consists of the states of Anambra, Cross River, Imo en Rivers.

The arms are based on those of the Eastern Region.
