The eagle is taken from the medieval arms of Count Friedrich von Putelendorf (later Bottendorf), who had a castle in the present municipality. The small shield shows a flower of the <I>Armeria bottendorfensis</I> a rare plant, which can be found in the municipality and which is named after the village.
