Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on February 19, 1872.

The arms are identical to the arms of the Van Grimbergen family. These arms are known since the 13th century. The village of Brussegem historically belonged to the Grimbergen estate and thus the local council used a seal with the Grimbergen arms.
