Badge: A plate charged with a spider’s web throughout Sable overall a spider Gules, ensigned by the Royal Crown proper and environed by a wreath of maple leaves issuant from an annulus, overall in base a scroll Or inscribed with the Motto in letters Sable.
Motto: NOVITAS ET INVENTIO.

Origin/meaning

The spider represents wisdom, hard work, patience and creativity. Its web symbolizes catching and integrating loose ideas to foster innovative and tangible results. The Motto translates as “Innovation and creativity.”

Original concept of the Department of National Defence, assisted by the heralds of the Canadian Heraldic Authority. The badge was approved by the Canadian Heraldic Authority on January 15, 2020.
