CHAVAGNES-EN-PAILLERS

Département : Vendée

Chavagne.jpg

Origin/meaning

The municipality uses the following motto : "Habitare fratres in unum", or 'brothers living together in unity'.

Chavagnes is a town with several religious houses and is called a 'holy town' because of the intensity of religious activity there. Its inhabitants suffered terribly in Republican massacres against Catholics in the years 1793-96. Hence the choice of the motto and the two crosiers.

I have no information on the right half of the arms.
