Origin/meaning

The chevron forms a square corner (or Winkel in German) and thus is a canting element. It is designed as a carpenter's square, the symbol of St. Joseph. The three crosses are a Christian symbol and thus refer to the first name of the bishop.

The stars are a symbol for St. Francis de Sales, as he was rector of a college devoted to that saint. The fleur-de-lys in base is a symbol for Saint Louis.
