IMPERIAL COUNTY OF ORTENBURG (Reichsgrafschaft Ortenburg)
German |
Origin/meaningThe County Ortenburg was a small county located in the present-day German state of Bayern, located on the lands around Ortenburg Castle. It existed as an independent territory from 1120-1805 as a county, when it was mediatised to Bayern. Capital was the city of Ortenburg. The arms show a bend, already used in the 13th century. Although the territory was very small, the counts were very influential and the arms can be seen in a number of town arms.
