German | In Gold ein gesenkter blauer Wellenbalken, darüber ein rot bewehrter schwarzer Doppeladler, darunter ein grüner Dreiberg. |
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on September 17, 1963 and confirmed on May 23, 1973.
The wavy bar symbolises the two main rivers in the district, the Donau and the Isar. The hills in the base of the shield symbolise the Bayrische Wald, a mountainous area in the middle of Bavaria. The hills were also used in the arms of the Niederalteich monastery. The eagle is taken from the arms of another abbey, that of Metten. Both Benedictine monasteries were founded in the 8th century and played a major role in the local history. The golden colour of the field finally symbolises the rich soil in the district.
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
