The blue field with the two gold fields 'draped from the top', in combination with the calice, reminds us of the Blessed Sacrament in a tabernacle. The color blue stands for the Blessed Virgin Mary, who carry the Child in the tabernacle of her womb. The gold color also reminds us of the foundations of the diocese Sacramento, established in the Northern Californian Mother Lode, by the first bishop of Sacramento, Patrick Manogue, himself originally a pioneer goldminer.
