Origin/meaning
The arms were designed in 1980.
The blue star came from the original coat of arms of the Diocese of Concordia and symbolizes the title of Maria as Our Lady of Perpetual Help, the dioceses Patroness. The heart symbolizes the new diocese Salina after 1945 and its new cathedral, which was dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The cross-partition in this shield is not really explained.
The arms of Concordia:
The cross on the green hill, symbolises the church in Kansas with its rolling green fields. The ox yoke is a symbol for 'Concordia'. The star and fleur-de-lys are taken from the arms of Pope Leo XIII, who created the diocese in 1887. Both are also symbols for St. Mary, the patron saint of the cathedral.
