DIOCESE OF YANGON

Country : Myanmar
Denomination : Anglican

Established 1877 as Diocese of Rangoon
Renamed 1989

Arms of Diocese of Yangon

Official blazon

  • (1877 arms) Argent, on a champagne a palm tree proper. Affixed thereto is a shield bearing the arms of the See of Winchester.

Origin/meaning

The current arms are based on the arms adopted in 1877 when the see was established. The historical arms, see below, showed a palm tree and the arms of the Diocese of Winchester, as the diocese was endowed by Winchester in 1877 and the first Bishop was from there.

The current arms keep the design, but with the additional dates 1877-2001 in the Burmese alphabet. The colours of the inescutcheon have been changed.
