DOLJ COUNTY

Arms (crest) of Dolj (county)

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on May 29, 2003.

The lion is the old symbol of Oltenia, as a Romanian historical province, and is a corollary of the virtues of the inhabitants of these lands.

The sheaf of wheat represents the wealth of this county and the traditional occupation of its inhabitants.

The fish is a traditional heraldic element, inscribed in the old interwar coat of arms of the county, and represents the richness of the waters of this area, and by extrapolation it can become a symbol of the agility of the people from these lands.
