EAST HAM

Incorporated into: 1965 Newham

Arms (crest) of East Ham
Official blazon
English blazon wanted

Origin/meaning

East Ham did not have an official Coat of Arms, but adopted some of its own design. These are clearly based on those of the neighbouring town of West Ham.

The crosier represents Stratford-Langthorne Abbey, holders of the manor. The ship shows that the Borough houses much of London's docklands. The torches are emblems of education and progress.

The motto means Progress With The People.
