Origin/meaning
The arms were granted on October 7, 1818 and again on May 31, 1838.
The origin of the arms is not known, the arms were applied for in the early 19th century by the local council, but the meaning is no longer known. During the 18th century the council used as arms a golden shield with a red chevron, which is based on the arms of Herzele, as the local Lord of Eksaarde was the son of Claire van Herzele. All other families that ruled the village used completely different arms.
