Origin/meaning
Bishop Emerson J. Moore's coat of arms is red, black and green, the colors of the Black liberation movement. The shield features a baptismal shell, symbolizing the fact that he is a convert to Catholicism, as are his parents and sisters. The bar across the center signifies the division, yet overall unity, of Black and White Americans. The five teardrops represent the wounds of Jesus.
The motto is from St. Paul 's letter to the Ephesians and was chosen "to emphasize the unity of all Christian people."
The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of bishop.
