The crest cants "Rypern", since "ryper" is the Norwegian word for "ptarmigans". The motto is a reference to these lyrics from Ode to Joy: "We enter, drunk with fire, Heavenly One, thy sanctuary". The motto, among other things, expresses joie de vivre, which he believe is an attitude he holds. If it ever isn't, it's one he strives for.
