Origin/meaning :
The arms were granted on February 8, 1949.

The arms are based on the seals of the powerful Eusserthal Abbey. The seal from 1530 shows the patron saint, St. Bernardus of Clairvaux in a Gothic temple, the seal from 1557 shows the Madonna on a throne. The arms show St. Bernardus on a throne, thus combining the two seals. The Abbey played a major role in the German history as for some time the state symbols of the emperors were kept in the abbey.
