FENOARIVO ATSINANANA (Fénérive-Est)
Official blazon
Origin/meaning
The three flowers on the diagonal are flowers of the clove, which was and remains one of the most important crop of this area.
The ship most likely signifies that the town is a harbour town. The sun symbolises the sky and the abundance of sunshine in the area. The ship may also be a pirate's ship, as the local tribes were joined in 1674 by Ratsimilaho, to the new tribe of the Betsimisaraka. Ratsimilaho was the son of an English pirate.
