FIRE AND CBRN ACADEMY, CANADA

Coat of arms (crest) of the Fire and CBRN Academy, Canada

Official blazon

Badge: Azure on a Maltese cross rayonné Or a hurt charged with a plate bearing an atom Sable above two retorts in saltire Argent.
Motto: PER SCIENTIAM TUTELA.

Origin/meaning

The badge combines elements of the badges of the two units that amalgamated to form the Canadian Forces Fire and CBRN Academy. The Maltese cross is taken from the Canadian Forces Fire Academy badge and illustrates the primary role of the Academy, which is to train personnel to fight building, ship or aircraft fires, and to respond to hazardous material and medical emergencies. The central element is taken from the Canadian Forces Nuclear Biological and Chemical School badge. The two retorts symbolize chemical and biological hazards while the atom symbolizes radiological and nuclear hazards. Motto This Latin phrase means “Protection by knowledge”.

The badge was approved on February 15, 2012.
