Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on July 27, 1956.

The arms show in the right half a coachdriver. The local coachdriver's school was world famous in the 16^th century. It was so famous that a street in Antwerpen (Belgium) is named after the school. The image itself is derived from a wooden panel from 1577. The left half shows in the lower half the bars derived from the arms of the Counts of Rieneck, who owned many possessions in the town. The area as a whole belonged to the State of Mainz until 1803 and the upper left half shows the wheel, the symbol of the State of Mainz.
