Official blazon

In Rot eine goldene Burg mit zwei viereckigen Türmen, ungezinnter Mauer und offenem Tor; auf der Mauer zwischen den Türmen eine gekrönte Heilige (heilige Katharina von Alexandrien) in goldenem Mantel und rotem Unterkleid, in der Rechten ein nach unten gerichtetes Schwert, in der Linken einen Palmenzweig haltend, hinter ihr ein halb sichtbares Richtrad.

Origin/meaning

The arms show a city wall with the local patron saint, St. Catherine. The composition already appeared on the oldest known seal of the city, dating from the early 16th century.
