GARCHING BEI MÜNCHEN

State : Bayern
District (Kreis) : München

Garchinm.jpg

Official blazon

Geteilt von Silber und Blau; oben zwischen zwei grünen Krüppelkiefern ein rotes Wagenrad, unten über niedrigem, durchgehenden silbernen Gebäude eine silberne Reaktorkuppel

Origin/meaning

The arms were granted in 1967 and are newly devised; there are no older arms or seals of the town known.
The upper part of the arms shows the symbol of St. Catherine, the patron saint of the town. At the same time the wheel is a symbol for the trade along the road and the old postal station in Garching. The pines are a symbol for the sparsely forested heath in which the town is situated.

The lower part shows the modern research institutes in the town, especially the nuclear power plant, the first of the many buildings related to the institutes.
