Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on September 21, 1953.

The symbol of a cross with the letter M are known from the local borderstones dating from 1686. The meaning or origin of the symbols is not known. They are, however, nearly identical to a sign of a local mason dating from the 15th century. Whether there is any connection is not known.

Since 1845 the symbols were used on the seal of the municipality and since 1926 in a shield. The colours were determined when the arms were granted in 1953 and were chosen arbitrarily.
