Origin/meaning
The first and fourth quarter show the arms of the Diocese of Regensburg. The second and third shows the arms of the Diocese of Mainz (in reversed colours), the diocese where the bishop was born and raised. The small inescutcheon shows the patron saint of the Diocese of Regensburg, St. Wolfgang, but cal also refer to St. Bonifatius, the founder of the Diocese of Mainz.
